A recent poll has sent shockwaves through the nation, revealing a stark reality: Americans are facing a holiday season filled with financial struggles, and the blame is being squarely placed on President Trump's economic policies.
The Associated Press–NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll paints a grim picture, with a vast majority of U.S. adults noticing skyrocketing prices for everyday essentials like groceries, electricity, and holiday gifts. Roughly half of Americans are feeling the pinch, finding it increasingly difficult to afford gifts and being forced to delay major purchases or cut back on non-essential spending.
But here's where it gets controversial: President Trump, while downplaying economic concerns, has been urging families to scale back on Christmas presents. At a recent event, he suggested that families could do without certain products, using pencils and children's toys as examples. He went as far as to say, "You don't need 37 dolls for your daughter."
This advice, however, stands in stark contrast to his own financial success. Forbes estimates his personal wealth at a staggering $7.3 billion, with his net worth skyrocketing during his second term due to media and cryptocurrency ventures.
And this is the part most people miss: while Democrats are more likely to report cutting expenses and searching for discounts, many Republicans are also adjusting their budgets. Around four in ten Republicans are actively seeking lower prices, and a similar proportion are reducing non-essential purchases.
Nearly nine in ten adults have noticed rising grocery prices, with two-thirds reporting higher costs for electricity and holiday gifts, and roughly half saying gas prices are elevated. Consumer spending remains steady, but expectations for improvement are low.
Another survey, conducted by Politico and Public First, adds fuel to the fire, with 55% of respondents blaming Trump personally for the soaring prices. Almost half of Americans in that poll reported struggling to pay for basic necessities like groceries, utilities, healthcare, housing, and transportation.
The White House has been asked to comment on these damning poll results, but as of now, there has been no official response.
So, what do you think? Is President Trump's economic policy to blame for these struggles, or are there other factors at play? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
