At just 23 years old, Sangweni has already bridged the gap between rural classrooms and the global stage of particle physics, contributing to the exploration of the universe's deepest mysteries.

His academic achievements are impressive: he graduated from the University of Cape Town with a first-class BSc in physics and astrophysics in 2022 and completed his honours in physics in 2023. He is currently pursuing an MSc in physics at the same university.

One of Sangweni's notable career milestones was his selection for the CERN programme, where he collaborated with scientists worldwide from June to August 2024. During his time at CERN, he developed a computer program using artificial intelligence (AI) to assist scientists in categorizing muons, a type of subatomic particle.

Sangweni's MSc research focuses on the ATLAS Experiment at CERN, a general-purpose particle detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). This experiment aims to study high-energy particle collisions to uncover the fundamental building blocks of matter and the forces that govern them. His work contributes to a deeper understanding of rare Standard Model processes observed in ATLAS.

For his honours research, Sangweni explored the potential of new physics to enhance our understanding of the universe's fundamental structure. His next goal is to pursue a DPhil in particle physics at Oxford University, a three- to four-year program.

At Oxford, Sangweni aims to continue his research on finding new physics by exploring lower energies and extrapolating the implications for higher energies that current technology cannot observe. His tutoring experience in high school, where he shared his passion for science and realized his natural teaching abilities, has also shaped his approach to education.
