Former Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah has been released early from prison. A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed to ABC News that Shah was freed Wednesday morning from Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Bryan, a minimum-security facility in Texas where she served her sentence. Shah has entered community confinement, which means she is either under home confinement or in a halfway house. For privacy, safety, and security reasons, the agency does not disclose the exact location of individuals while they are in community confinement.
Attempts to reach Shah’s representatives for comment were not immediately successful on Wednesday.
Shah received a sentence in 2023 of six and a half years in prison in connection with a telemarketing fraud case. Her initial release had been set for August 30, 2026 after two reductions for good behavior shortened her time behind bars.
She pleaded guilty in 2022 to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and was ordered to forfeit $6.5 million after previously entering a not-guilty plea. In addition, she was required to make restitution to victims of the nationwide telemarketing scheme, which prosecutors said targeted elderly and vulnerable individuals.
At her sentencing, Shah expressed a commitment to repay the victims once she was released, telling the judge that she planned to use her platform to raise money and hoped to work again in the future.
Shah, a mother of two, was a fixture on the first two seasons of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. The second season, which concluded in March 2022, followed her legal battles over the fraud charges.
Andy Cohen, a longtime executive producer within Bravo’s Real Housewives franchise, stated on his SiriusXM show on December 2 that Shah will not be returning to The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Cohen reiterated that Shah is not coming back to the show and suggested she might appear on another reality program, though not on any project he oversees. He did not offer details about future opportunities for Shah with Bravo or other networks.
