Norwich City Defender Emmanuel Adeboyega Joins Rotherham United
Norwich City defender Emmanuel Adeboyega has made a permanent move to League One club Rotherham United for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old, who never made a senior appearance for the Canaries, signed a contract until 2027 after a successful loan spell at Dundee United last season.
Adeboyega, a Republic of Ireland youth international, was in the final six months of his contract at Carrow Road. The club had previously opted to activate a one-year extension in the summer of 2025. Adeboyega was part of Liam Manning's pre-season preparations but suffered an injury during a tour of the Netherlands, which placed him well down the pecking order behind Ruairi McConville, Jose Cordoba, and Harry Darling.
Norwich City signed Adeboyega from Irish side Drogheda United in August 2023. He previously had a loan stint at Walsall in the second half of the 2023/24 campaign, scoring three goals in 14 appearances at the Bescot Stadium.
Adeboyega could make his Rotherham United debut in the League One home game against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday. The Millers are currently in 23rd place, five points from safety. The defender had also attracted interest from Wycombe and Stevenage.
In his first club interview, Adeboyega expressed his happiness to be at Rotherham United, stating that the club had been interested in him since the summer. He praised the manager for his honesty and the positive conversation they had, which aligned with his expectations. Adeboyega believes that his move to Dundee United last season was crucial for his development and that he can now focus on the future without the distraction of potential transfers.
Norwich City head coach Philippe Clement acknowledged that Adeboyega's chances of playing in the first team at Carrow Road were limited, citing the strong competition from players like Ruairi McConville, Harry Darling, and the returning Jose Cordoba. Clement emphasized that Adeboyega remains an integral part of the training group and also trains with the 21s due to the high number of center-backs in the squad.
