The San Diego Padres have made some intriguing moves, addressing their key needs with the additions of starting pitcher Griffin Canning and outfielder Nick Castellanos. This comes just a day before their first full-squad workout, leaving fans and analysts alike buzzing with anticipation.

He'll be joining a five-man competition for the final spot in the rotation, which already includes JP Sears, Matt Waldron, and non-roster invitees Marco Gonzales and Triston McKenzie. The top three spots are locked in with Nick Pivetta, Michael King, and Joe Musgrove, while Randy Vásquez is the front-runner for the fourth spot.
Castellanos, now 33, began his MLB journey with the Detroit Tigers back in 2013 and has also played for the Cubs and Reds. Last season with the Phillies, he hit .250/.494/.400 with 17 home runs in 147 games. However, his release from the team was reportedly due to conflicts with staff and teammates, as reported by The New York Times.
